Who can benefit from counselling and psychotherapy?

People from all walks of life can be helped by a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. Circumstances and struggles that may lead a person to seek counselling include:

  • Depression and feelings of emptiness.
  • Low self-esteem and lack of confidence.
  • Anxiety, stress, and excessive worry.
  • Grief resulting from major life change such as a relationship break-up.
  • A history of abuse or maltreatment.
  • Ongoing symptoms from a life trauma.
  • Feelings of confusion.
  • A desire for personal growth.
  • A desire to be a happier person.

If you recognise any of the above in yourself, you might benefit from talking to a qualified counsellor. Contact Holus Health Counselling Practice Bowral today and begin your journey to a happier, healthier you.

What can I expect from the first session?

The first session is used primarily as a fact-finding mission, seeking to understand what has brought you to counselling. It is also used as a “getting to know you” session for both the counsellor and you. The main aim of the first session is to establish the reasons you want to explore counselling.

Choosing the right counsellor is paramount for your journey. You must establish whether you trust this counsellor and feel safe to disclose your inner feelings to them.

How often do I need to come to counselling?

In a few sessions, a person may feel a shift in their feelings, feeling lighter and happier, able to cope better and just having more clarity around their concerns. Others, however, may require longer and deeper exploration of their issues and may need to commit to a longer counselling experience.

Together you and the counsellor may need to explore what is and isn’t working and change tact in the therapy as you grow and develop.

Do I need to bring my partner?

In couples counselling, it is more productive to have your partner with you to improve communication and have a safe and non-judgmental space to air your concerns.

Do I need a referral from a GP?

Not necessarily. If you are working with your GP under a mental health plan then a referral can be taken to the counsellor. Otherwise you can enquire about counselling with your selected practitioner and take it from there.

Before you commence counselling, talk to the practice about fee structure and we will be able to work out the payment terms best for your situation.
